Revision of MUST application instructions (page 3 of
application):
The MUST application instructions are being revised.
An applicant institution does not need to have a current
Assurance of Compliance (FWA or MPA) on file with the HHS
Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) by the time
the MUST application is submitted. However, an
institution without a current Assurance of Compliance
should file an application for such an assurance and the
application form should be submitted with the MUST
application.
Instructions for submitting an application are
provided on the OHRP website
(http://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/assurances/assurances_index.html).
Applications can be filed online or via paper and the
application process looks fairly simple. An institution
is required to designate an Institutional Review Board
(IRB). A commercial IRB, such as the Western IRB (WIRB),
is acceptable. The IRB for the Bloomberg School of Public
Health at Johns Hopkins University should NOT be
designated.
Alternatively, private groups could use an
institutional affiliation, e.g., local hospital, to
provide Assurance of Compliance and an IRB.
